What is Digital Painting?

The simplest answer is that Digital Paintings are paintings that are created using a computer. There are some websites that use the term “digital painting” when they are really referring to digital image manipulation. They are basically using software to “make a photo look like a painting” - that’s not what I do.

I use professional digital painting software, with a stylus and a digitizing tablet, to create your Hand Painted Portrait. Using these modern tools instead of conventional paints and brushes, allow me “to create an original painting from scratch”, and achieve a look that is unique.

The Digital Painting techniques that I use to create your painted portrait differ from other forms of digital art, in particular the digital manipulation of a photo. I paint by hand, stroke by stoke, using a stylus instead of a brush or pencil. My pallet is made of unlimited variations of colors that are instantly created and selected, instead of mixing tubes of paint or fumbling for just the right pastel or colored pencil.

A digital painting is an original piece of art, a unique creation, the same as any original painting or drawing. The printed result of this digital artwork is also considered an original. It is not like copying an oil painting as a print, which is a reproduction.
